The Anfield star is out of contract in 18 months and is yet to agree a new deal with Liverpool informing the former West Ham and Chelsea man that he would have to take a pay cut to meet terms the Merseyside club are ready to offer the 29 year old, which has led to Arsene Wenger taking a keen interest in the experienced full-back.
Wenger sees Johnson as a possible replacement for Bacary Sagna, who is set to leave the Emirates Stadium when his contract comes to an end this summer.
Though Arsene Wenger can call upon youngster Carl Jenkinson to fill the breach he prefers to bring in a proven performer to fill the void.
Brendan Rodgers may feel he can afford to sell Johnson given he can call upon youngster Martin Kelly, John Flanagan and loaned out England Under 21 international Andre Wisdom to fill the role.
Johnson is into his fifth season at Liverpool and could be tempted by a return to London.
